HHSOPB: Amandla!

Originally aired July 11th 2010, on CJSR fm 88.5 in Edmonton, AB. It's been a long time since I got one of these up on the blog, sorry for the delay. I was charged with being technologically impaired, and forced to surrender my license until fully educated on how to use the internet properly. This show is a special all South African showcase, with a wide variety of the different flavours and era's of Hip Hop in Azania. So grab yaself a bunny chow, and a bit of durban poison and just chill out ya ting to some mad beats.

Kuti and Allen created Afro-beat through a fusion of jazz, highlife, Nigerian folk music, soul and funk. We play some early, 60s Fela tracks, showing the roots of Afro-beat prior to its full development in the 70s. At the end of the episode we play Part 1 of a documentary produced by Wuyi Jacobs of Afrobeat Radio, which features a variety of illuminating interviews revealing the life of this musical giant.
